Exhibition of Madonna Nudes

After her 1991 film Truth or Dare, her full monty hitchhiking stunt in 1992, and the three-way smooch with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the 2003 Video Music Awards, one might think Studio nudes of Madonna? Big deal. The difference, of course, is that these thirty year old photographs were not publicity stunts of a superstar, but bread-and-butter for an unknown dance student. At just twenty years old, Maria “Madonna” Ciccone posed for New York photographer Martin H. M. Schreiber in 1979 to support herself in school. For those of us who were still in diapers at that point, we may not remember that Schreiber cashed in after her rise to stardom by selling his old photographs to Playboy in 1985.

Now, to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the photographs an exhibition will be co-hosted by Seven Dials and Impure Art (the UK’s only erotic art gallery) who are exclusively handling the sale of the Madonna Nudes 30th Anniversary collection (see www.impureart.com for details). The exhibition, which is on view July 2 to 19 at the Seven Dials gallery in London, coincides with the pop star’s Sticky & Sweet tour coming to London in early July. I wonder if the now fifty-year-old mom will swing by the show.
